Electrolyte Imbalance in Tuberculous Meningitis

Abstract
The electrolyte disturbance in tuberculous meningitis has been studied. In a group of 8 children with tubrculous meningitis 7 were found to have hyponatremia. It is suggested that the hyponatremia in tuber¡©culous meningitis can be explained by the following three mechanisms.
1. Increased urinary excretion, water retention and urinary concentration due to inadequate excretion of A. D. H.
2. True salt wasting in which found excessive urinary losses of sodium associated with the reduction of the extracellular fluids.
3. Urinary losses of sodium and water retention not associated with urniary concentration.
